In the sculpture “Root”, Ida Karkoszka continues her reflection on the body as a record of presence – a form that does not imitate the body, but evokes it. The presence of the foot clearly directs the associations toward the body, suggesting the rest of the figure as a fragment of the female form. However, the rest of the shape – simplified and synthetic – remains in tension between the concrete and the abstract.

The figure stands on the toes of one foot, resting on a single, precisely balanced point. This gesture does not introduce uncertainty but focus – the sculpture remains steady, as if all its energy is concentrated in this one place. It is a balance not as a state of instability, but as a conscious choice.

“Root” does not portray the body in an illustrative way – the body is present both in the literal fragment of form and in the tensions, proportions, and internal concentration. It is a form that seems both a fragment and a whole – a body and a structure.
