The object entitled Biological model is reminiscent of both a bas-relief and a mould for the mass production of gummy sweets. The material used – latex – evokes skin and physicality through its softness, colour and elasticity. It is reminiscent of animal bodies used to make sweets, pressed together like products on an assembly line. The work refers to tissue engineering – contemporary biotechnologies involving the transplantation of animal organs and the cultivation of tissues and organs inside animal bodies (xenotransplantation). The pig, which is genetically close to humans, is often used for these purposes. Animal bodies are exploited in medicine and reduced to mere incubators of human life.
