On the eve of the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the Ukrainian nation, the Mieroszewski Centre invited to a special exhibition of posters by Polish and Ukrainian artists entitled „Art vs. War.”

February 24, 2022 – a date that forever changed our perception of the world – the start of Russia's aggression against Ukraine triggered a wave of violence that could not go unanswered. Artists from both Ukraine and Poland stood on the front lines of the artistic battle, creating works of art as a protest against Russian cruelty. The art presented in the exhibition was a manifesto of solidarity with the victims of genocide and a criticism of the lack of determination on the part of the Western world.

The works presented by prominent Ukrainian artists, including Nikita Titov and Oleksandr Hrechov, are part of the book „Posters of the Time of War.” These striking pieces have already been showcased at numerous international exhibitions, including in the USA and the United Kingdom, and have gained worldwide recognition.

On the other hand, the works by Polish artists were created both as a response to Russian crimes and propaganda, and as an expression of empathy for Ukrainians. The Polish section of the exhibition includes works by artists such as Bartłomiej Kiełbowicz, Andrzej Rysuje (Andrzej Milewski), Marta Frej, Matylda Damięcka, Paweł Jońca, Ida Karkoszka and others, who, through their sculptures, posters, and installations, actively respond to war crimes. Their works – often going viral on social media – serve as an expression of solidarity and support for the Ukrainian people.

The Ukrainian section of the exhibition included works by Dmytro Dziuba, Mykola Honcharov, Zakentiy Horobov, Oleksandr Hrechov, Oleh Hryshchenko, Artem Husiev, Albina Yaloza, Andriy Yermolenko, Katya Lisova, Anton Lohov, Maksym Palenka, Dasha Podolceva, Oleksiy Revyka, Oleksiy Say, Dmytro Simonov, Mykhailo Skop, Nikita Titov, Mykyta Shylimov, Albina Yaloza, and participants in the collective project „Art Against War” (Kateryna Buchatska, Nikita Kravtsov, and Misha Zavalny).

The Polish section of the exhibition includes sculptures, posters, installations, and banners by nineteen artists: Agata Nowicka, Aleksander Małachowski (Hashtagalek), Aleksandra Cieślak, Andrzej Rysuje (Andrzej Milewski), Bartłomiej Kiełbowicz, Beata Śliwińska (Barrakuz), Hania Kmieć, Ida Karkoszka, Irmina Staś, Jakub Jezierski, Marta Frej, Matylda Damięcka, Max Skorwider, Michał Frydrych, Michał Slezkin, Patryk Sroczyński, Paweł Jońca, Tomasz Kopcewicz, and Tomasz Partyka.
